THIS weekend, Warrington Wolves will play in their fifth Challenge Cup final in the past 10 years – and veteran forward Ben Westwood has been there for each Wire trip to the new Wembley.

Warrington Guardian:

To mark his fifth cup final appearance, we asked Super Bennie to give his top fives on a range of topics – covering everything from mushrooms, to pranks on teammates and a potential future career as a Formula One driver.

Warrington Guardian:

Five things a player should or shouldn’t do on cup final day:

1. Have a good breakfast

“The last four times I’ve asked for a full English breakfast. I’ve had it delivered to my room a few times, because they didn’t want the other players seeing that I was having a full breakfast. That’s what I used to do on game day. Of late I’ve changed it, but we’ll see what’s available on the day.”

2. Stick to your normal routine

“Don’t try and change too much of your normal routine. Obviously you’re in a hotel, but try to go through the same kind of techniques that you do at home.”

3. Don’t get distracted

“There should be no distractions. Keep yourself locked away from wives and girlfriends. We get put in a hotel away from everybody.”

4. Don’t do anything daft

“Don’t do daft things or take any risks doing pranks or jokes. It wasn’t a final, but I can remember someone once knelt down behind Matty Russell and someone else gave him a shove. He ended up doing his ankle. We were in Australia at the time. Try and keep any pranks to a minimum.”

Warrington Guardian:

5. Be ruthless

“Go out there and smash some skulls together.”

The five best players you’ve played with at Warrington:

1. Adrian Morley

“When he signed it was fantastic news for me. He was somebody who was aggressive and liked to go out and bash people, and I could just feed off him doing that. I was super excited and he stayed he for a good number of years.”

2. Michael Monaghan

“He was a very clever player.”

3. Lee Briers

“I have to say him I suppose, I’ll mention him if I have to.”

4. Nathan Wood

“He was fantastic. We signed together from Wakefield. He was a great bloke, a great player and a great competitor. He was just a good human to be around.”

5. Martin Gleeson

“He’s one of the most skilful players I played alongside.

“These are all greats who had different traits, but what they did was top notch.”

Five other sports you’d be good at:

“I think I’d be good at any sport I tried. In my head, I think I have the attributes to be able to be good at anything. Golf, tennis, canoeing, mountain biking, racing, Formula One – anything, I reckon I could put my hand to it. I know that once I put my mind to it, I’d pick it up in no time. I tried snooker but I wasn’t so good at snooker.”

Five things people wouldn’t know about you:

“I’ve never kept things close to my chest, it always seems to come out. I don’t like mushrooms – I hate them, it’s just fungus. It’s disgusting. I play the guitar, but I think people know that. I suppose I’m a bit weird. There’s nothing really interesting, I’m quite an open guy – there’s nothing hiding away.”
