TWO St Helens Striders members were one of a lucky handful to take part in the first ever Cybi Coastal Marathon on Saturday.

Katie Taggart and Pete Medlicott formed part of a field limited to 200 entrants that circumnavigated Ynys Cybi on the Welsh national coastal footpath.

In one of the most scenic marathons available in the UK, Katie and Pete battled through feverishly hot weather to finish together in 7hours 2mins 34secs.

Clubmates Scott Robertson and Ian Wright were impressive finishers in the Peak Skyline 25km - a race split between the White and Dark Peak areas of the Peak District.

Robertson finished second overall, while his long-time teammate Wright was not far behind him in sixth place.

On Thursday evening, Striders member Clare Pickavance competed in the Sale Sizzler 5km race and came home in a time of 24mins 36secs

There was also a milestone reached by two Striders members who have both completed their 100th Parkrun race.

Jackie Dobson and Christine Humphrey both reached the end of their special race to rapturous support from friends and fellow Striders.

The club would also like to recognise the work done by the enthusiastic and jovial Frank McAlister.

An honorary Striders member who was an integral part of the early years of the club, Frank runs the weekly ‘Strider Handicap’ sessions and has built up an adoring following.

These sessions allow all members to race together inclusively with a spirit of togetherness and comradeship.
