SCHOOLGIRL Demi Holmes was named Young Charity Champion at last year's Inspiration Awards for her dedicated fundraising work in the community.

Now we are looking for your nominations for the 2018 awards which take place at The Halliwell Jones Stadium in November.

The 11-year-old former Woolston Primary pupil, who has been giving her time to help others since the age of six, has raised money for stillborn charity Harry & Co, made bracelets, knocked on neighbours doors and sold teddy bears, pens and badges in a bid to gather hundreds of pounds.

Since winning her award at the Warrington Guardian event last year, Demi has been listing in the help of sports stars, businesses and attended a number of charity events to continue her fundraising efforts.

In April, she was crowned Miss Junior Natural Beauty England, once again for her selfless charity work, having raised more than £900 for Abbie's Army – a children's cancer charity that she hopes to help until her next European pageant in Spain next year.

"I was so excited winning the award last year," said Demi, who is also a keen netballer.

"I just like helping people.

"I wanted to raise money for Abbie's Army because they've not got a cure for brain cancer, so if I put enough money in they can cure it and not as many children will be dying."

Demi's dad, Dave Holmes, spoke of his pride at his daughter's willingness to give her time and effort to those in need.

He said: "I am just so proud of her, because Demi just loves fundraising for people. She's a giver not a taker.

"And some of things that she has done off her own back, that we haven't even asked her to do, is unbelievable for an 11-year-old. She was asking us when she was six could she do this, could she do that, so we gave it a go.

"Obviously we have to help with some things, but we've just stepped back. We haven't had to encourage her one bit. It is Demi who asks us 'Can we do this?' It's all her. She loves it."
