FILM fans will be spoilt for choice next week as two new screens open at the town’s Curzon cinema.

Curzon chiefs are transforming the Toft Road cinema from one screen to three and are revamping and extending the café bar.

The work is costing £1 million, and will include new luxury seating throughout, as well as improved sound at the current screen.

The scheme will see the number of seats at the cinema increase from 170 to 312, and the first phase, the creation of two new screens, is set to be completed this weekend.

The new screens will seat 111 and 60 people, and are due to open next Monday.

From next week the box office will move to the Tatton Suite, accessed through the side entrance to the building, to pave the way for the second phase of the work, the revamp of the current screen and café bar.

Phase two will take six weeks, with work on the current screen due to take place towards the end of the period, which will allow it to remain open for about three weeks from next week until the revamp goes ahead.

The current screen will see its seating reduce from 172 to 141 to provide bigger seats and more leg room.

From next week film fans should be able to sit back and enjoy Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again, Mission: Impossible – Fallout or The Incredibles 2.

The revamped café and bar and current screen are due to reopen on September 17.

The new screens are being created at the back of the building, and the improvements will offer added comfort with the introduction of Skeie Solist Norwegian seating.

Rob Kenny, the Curzon’s director of cinema development, said: “We have grown the audience each year, and have reached the stage where the Curzon brand is accepted in the town and we want make the cinema something really special.

“The improvements represent a weighty investment for us, and I think people are going to be impressed with the new screens and the luxury seating.

“We will be able to have a wider range of programming and be able to retain films for longer periods.

“The café bar is going to be doubled in size, and will have a totally new look, based on the art deco feel of the building.”
