A NEW shop selling imported sweet treats from across the world has opened in Padgate.

Dutch Lux on Padgate Lane opened in March, selling chocolate and candy usually not available in the UK.

Imported goodies from countries including the Netherlands, the USA, Belgium and France are sold at Dutch Lux - from Reece's and Oreo cereals to white chocolate and peanut butter M&Ms, and white chocolate and crispy Snickers to Harry Potter-themed sweets.

Owner William Wright was inspired to set up his first business after bringing sweets back for friends following trips over to Amsterdam.

The 25-year-old said: "It's something that's very unique and it's really taken off.

"We bring in things that we don't really have over here in the UK.

"I've been running the business online since about November last year.

"I was always travelling over to Holland for vacations with my partner, trying the drinks and the food.

"I'd put pictures of some of the strange sweets on Instagram and everyone was asking me where I had got them, and whether I could bring some back.

"It just went from there, and it's quite surprising how quickly it's grown to be honest."

Dutch Lux, which also sells milkshakes infused with the imported treats, has had customers travelling from afar afield as Leeds and Blackpool - spending hundreds of pounds per visit.

William, from Locking Stumps, added: "Considering we've only been going for a few months, we've been very busy.

"We've had quite a few people travelling quite a distance to come here.

"There were a few lads who drove two hours to get here and spent a good couple of hundreds of pounds before going straight home.

"You occasionally see some of this stuff being sold here, there and everywhere but I just thought I would create somewhere where you could get it all in one place."

Dutch Lux's top five biggest selling treats:

  • Chocomel
  • Dr Pepper Twists
  • Dr Pepper Cotton Candy
  • Mrs Freshley's Powdered Mini Doughnuts
  • White chocolate M&Ms
