SERVICES between Warrington Bank Quay and Liverpool Lime Street have resumed after a person was hit by a train at Rainhill station this morning, Tuesday.

Northern Rail said services have been suspended between Huyton and Earlestown, with all lines blocked due to the incident shortly after 7.30am.

British Transport Police later confirmed that there had been a fatality at Rainhill station.

A spokesman said: "Our officers attended the line close to Rainhill railway station on Tuesday (May 22) at approximately 7.30am following reports that a person had been struck by a train.

"Colleagues from Merseyside Police and The North West Ambulance Service also attended, but the person was pronounced dead at the scene."

They added: "Officers are working to identify the person and inform their next of kin.

"This incident is not currently being treated as suspicious and a file will be prepared for the coroner."
