THE brave volunteers of a strictly summer fundraiser in aid of a Warrington charity came together on Monday to take their first steps on the dance floor.

Birchwood-based children’s charity Brainwave is planning a new Strictly Summer event which will see 10 business executives partner up with professional dancers from Cadman’s Dance School for the ultimate summer dance contest.

The star-studded night, set to be hosted by radio DJ Mike Toolan, will see fashion designer Seema Malhotra, best known for her appearance on ITV series Real Housewives of Cheshire, put through her paces in a bid to impress the judging panel.

The panel will include Strictly Come Dancing star Gemma Atkinson.

The ballroom event takes place at The Mere Golf Resort and Spa in Knutsford on Saturday, June 30, where contestants will strut their stuff in sequins in a battle to win the Brainwave glitterball and raise much-needed funds to support children following a Brainwave programme.

Seema Malhotra said: “Strictly Summer is a great idea for Brainwave to bring this glamorous fundraiser to the north west, which gives a fresh take on the popular TV programme.

“I am super excited to be part of this event, which is a remarkable opportunity for people to learn a new skill while raising money for such a deserving cause, which helps transform disabled children’s lives.”

Brainwave North West corporate and individual donor manager, Joanne Freeman said: “I am delighted to be announcing this new and exciting event for Brainwave, and am humbled by its popularity this far and the enthusiasm towards the contest.

“Our participants have been partnered with the very best professional dancers, and training is in full swing as the battle commences for the Brainwave glitterball.

“I’m overwhelmed with the huge support we have received over the past year, and am calling on local people to come along and enjoy this fantastic evening of stars, sequins and sparkle.

“I would like to wish all contestants the best of luck as they salsa and waltz it out to support Brainwave children with disabilities and additional needs to achieve greater independence.”

The event is supported by The Mere Golf Resort and Spa, Hale and Didsbury Salutions Publishing and Event Station.
