A NURTURING primary school has been given a prestigious award in recognition of its work to help children gain confidence and develop self-respect.

Christ Church Academy in Shipley was given a Marjorie Boxall Quality Mark Award by national charity the Nurture Group Network. The prize is awarded to schools which show they are supporting pupils’ social and emotional needs. Nurture groups are led by teachers and help children to overcome barriers so they can make the most of their time at school.

Christ Church Academy head teacher Philippa Foster said: “We are delighted that the dedication and hard work of our staff, pupils and families has been recognised. We are a nurturing school and are very proud of the excellent provision we are able to offer.”

Nurture Group Network chief executive Kevin Kibble said: “Christ Church Academy has evidenced its success in running an outstanding Nurture Group, and the beneficiaries of their hard work are the children attending the school, their families and the wider community.”
