CHILDREN "get off to a good start" at a Little Horton primary school, according to Ofsted inspectors.

Marshfield Primary School on Thornton Lane was handed the second-highest rating, good, after an inspection in December.

The report said the quality of teaching at the school is "consistently good".

Inspector Christine Turner said: "The head teacher, senior leaders and governors are ambitious and aspirational for the pupils.

"Effective provision in early years ensures that children quickly adapt to school life and get off to a good start.

"The school has developed a curriculum that is exciting and relevant for the pupils at the school. Through themed topics such as chocolate, young entrepreneurs, pirates and treasure, and explorers, pupils investigate the theme through research activities."

The report praised pupils' behaviour and said they are proud to be part of the school. And inspectors said governors are effective, following a period of turbulence at the organisation.

Head teacher Victoria Hartford said staff are "delighted" with the report.
