THE M62 was closed eastbound after a crash involving a tanker.

All three lanes were closed due to the accident ariund 8am involving a tanker and a car between junction 11 at Birchwood and 12 at Eccles.

The tanker  stopped across all three lanes on the carriageway and could not be moved for more than two hours because the brakes locked on. Cars were allowed to pass on the hard shoulder but delays back to junction 10 left motorists stuck in their cars for more than an hour.

The tanker was cleared and the road reopened around 10.15am.

Meanwhile high winds have slowed traffic on the Thelwall Viaduct this morning, Wednesday.

The speed limit is down to 50mph on that stretch of the M6.

Warrington has been hit by high winds since last night due to the effects of Storm Eleanor.
