SLIMMING World consultants led by Nicky Sands joined forces to help families who rely on food banks this Christmas.

The group met at Alford Hall on November 28 to collect advent calendars for children in need.

Kerry Millington, whose group meets at Alford Hall, said “When I heard that almost 2,500 children in Warrington alone are at risk, and the majority of those only get one meal a day at school I knew I could rely on our members to get involved to make a difference to these children who deserve a little something during this magical time of year.”

The different groups collected more than 1,030 advent calendars, which have been passed on to Warrington Food Bank and St Joseph’s Family Centre.

Food bank volunteer Trish Cockayne said: “This is the worst time of year for vulnerable people, particularly parents, who find it difficult to provide treats for their children.

"Thanks to generous donations like this we are able to help make Christmas a little better for our clients.”
