POLICE have issued a warning about the consequences of sharing indecent images of children on social media after a child abuse video was circulated in Cheshire.
Officers at Cheshire Police were notified by members of the public after disturbing footage capturing scenes of child abuse was uncovered online.
DS Pete Shaw, from Cheshire Constabulary’s public protection directorate, said: “We’re aware of an indecent video that is currently being shared via social media in Cheshire and other areas.
"This matter is under investigation to ensure that safeguarding is in place and that offenders are prosecuted.
"I would like to take this opportunity to remind anyone that receives such images not to view or share them.
"This could result in an investigation for making and distributing indecent images of a child which could have serious consequences, including a criminal conviction and inclusion on the sex offenders' register.”
It is understood the incident was originally reported to Hampshire Constabulary and it has since been confirmed that the video was initially circulated in the area.
Investigations are ongoing.
