CARDINAL Newman Catholic High School was evacuated this morning after a fire broke out inside a building.

Firefighters from Warrington and Stockton Heath were called to the scene on Bridgewater Avenue at around 11.55am.

They discovered a small fire in a ground floor room and used a hose reel jet to put out the flames.

A thermal imaging camera was used to check the fire had not spread and a large fan was used to clear smoke from the building.

Luckily nobody was reported hurt and the school confirmed that everybody is safe and accounted for.

Teachers and pupils have now returned to class for lessons to continue as usual.

The school has said that parents are welcome to bring dry clothes in as children had to stand outside in the rain while firefighters made sure the building was safe.
