THE council has promised to lobby against plans to reduce the number of trains at Sankey for Penketh Station.

Following a public consultation into proposals for Warrington West Station, which will be built in Chapelford, Warrington Borough Council says it is also wants to make it easier for people to walk or cycle from Great Sankey to the new station.

Plans reveal that once West Warrington has opened, the services from Sankey for Penketh will be reduced to a peak hour train only.

But residents responding to the consultation said they were unhappy about the cuts and the council has said it will lobby the rail industry with the hope of adding more trains to the timetable.

Work has also begun on designs to improve the walking and cycle routes between Great Sankey and Penketh and the new station.

The car park for Warrington West has been redesigned in response to peoples' worries about anti-social driving and fears about the entrance being too close to homes on Belvedere Drive.

Residents were also concerned about train passengers parking on nearby streets and a council spokesman said they will be looking at traffic regulations to lessen the impact of the extra cars.
