TWO of Amanda Groarke’s international boxers at Hook and Jab won Great Britain titles at the weekend.

Olivia Hussey and Elise Glynn did their head coach proud as they struck gold at 69kg and 54kg respectively while representing England at the GB Junior and Youth Tri Nations Championships in Rotherham.

Groarke, who was coaching for England at the event and is also the GB performance coach, said: “Both Elise and Olivia have a very promising future and it’s an exciting year for the Hook and Jab boxers.”

For Glynn it was her second gold at the event, this time defeating fellow England pugilist Danielle Marshall of Hartlepool Catholic in Saturday’s semi final and then Scotland’s Shiara Robinson in the decider 24 hours later.

“The final is where Elise shone against a smaller opponent, using her height and reach to her advantage,” said Groarke.

“A flurry of eye-catching combinations against her very tough opponent gave Elise the win.”

The second gold medal for the Palatine Industrial Estate boxing and fitness centre was not far behind.

Hussey’s straight final with fellow England representative Amy Bullock was a rematch of their England national semi-final contest.

“Olivia once again stopped her opponent within the first round with powerful punches, phasing her attack and displaying outstanding boxing,” said Groarke.

Glynn will fight Marshall again on Sunday for the English title at Greenbank Liverpool, and she will join Hussey in the England versus Ireland international event being hosted by Eagle Sports and Social Club on Tuesday and Wednesday as both girls step up their preparations for the European Championships in June.

Both girls travel long distances for club and international training and Groarke said: “The dedication and commitment is paying off.”

Hussey had considered leaving boxing but is reaping the rewards now.

“She was previously a 64kg boxer but has returned to the ring after a 12-month break at her stronger and healthier weight of 69kg,” said Groarke.
