COUNCILLORS and residents are furious about mysterious plans to create an access road to land near Sankey for Penketh Station.

The planning application for a dropped kerb on Station Road opposite the turning for Belmont Crescent has no information about what the access road will be used for.

Great Sankey Parish Council said the plans are dangerous for motorists and pedestrians as visibility is poor on the busy road.

Objecting to the proposals, a council spokesman said: “Thirty residents attended the parish council meeting to express their concerns regarding this application and the strength of feeling from the community should be taken into consideration when the application is being processed.

“It is the council’s view that there should be some indication of the applicant’s future plans for the land before the proposed vehicle access can be given proper consideration.”

Residents on Campbell Crescent and Yarmouth Road are worried about the fate of the strip of land between their homes and the railway, which has already been ‘decimated’ with trees cut down and wildlife disturbed.

One neighbour said: “I would much prefer that the applicant has to submit all applications at the same time rather than a bit at a time as this would allow everyone to see the bigger picture.”

Another resident added: “This could create yet another hot spot in the area difficult to police for anti-social behaviour.”
