TWO talented residents have beaten hundreds of competitors from across three continents to reach the finals of the International Forklift Operator of the Year award.

Adam Hayes, 23, from Latchford, and Kristian Sherratt, 37, from Bewsey, are part of a shortlist of 40 finalists in the running to scoop the top honour.

They are now gearing up to demonstrate their knowledge, skill and understanding of safe forklift truck operations during the competition finals in front of around 20,000 people at Birmingham's NEC from September 13 to 16.

The pair, who both work for Travis Perkins, beat competitors from as far away as India and the USA in order to reach the finals.

The competition is being hosted by UK-based RTITB – the preferred regulatory body for workplace transport training, which also aims to find, recognise and reward the very best forklift operator in the world.

Laura Nelson, managing director of RTITB, congratulated Adam and Kristian on their success.

She said: "This is a very prestigious award so to reach the finals you have to prove you are 'the best of the best'.

"To qualify for the next round of the competition Adam and Kristian scored highly in the initial online tests and they thoroughly deserve to be competing in the finals against their peers."

Competitors will be put through their paces with four tests during the finals.
