REPORTS surrounding a review into the murder of a 19-year-old soldier killed by the IRA in an ambush in 1973 in Belfast have been quashed.
It had been reported by a newspaper in Belfast that an investigation into the death of private Gary Barlow from Warrington, who was killed after he became separated from his patrol, could be set to take place.
This was after a lobby group of Army veterans who served in Northern Ireland asked the chief constable to order a fresh investigation into the killing.
But Police Service of Northern Ireland have dismissed these claims surrounding Private Barlow, whose parents lived in Cinnamon Brow.
A spokesman for Police Service of Northern Ireland said: "The Historical Enquiries Team (HET) completed a review of the investigation into the death of Private Gary Barlow in July 2010 and a report was provided to the family.
"The review did not identify any new lines of enquiry.
"While the case is now within the remit of Legacy Investigation Branch, in the absence of any credible evidential opportunities, there is no intention to conduct any further investigation at this time."
