Celebrations under way at B&Q in Winwick

TWELVE staff members at B&Q are celebrating 125 years of service at the Warrington store.

Celebrating staff all joined together to toast their achievement and were treated to a large slice of cake outside their beloved store.

Richard Cooper, the Warrington’s store manager, said the secret to their team is actually the people of Warrington.

He said: "The local community keep us busy with their new and exciting questions about the DIY project they come in looking for advice on.

"We all enjoy a challenge and they certainly do keep us on our toes.

“I am very proud that we have so many colleagues receiving long service awards.

"We really are a team and have such a positive atmosphere here that we all enjoy turning up for work - even on a Monday morning in winter.”

Debbie O’Hara, who is celebrating 15 years at the store, said “I can’t believe I am celebrating 15 years’ service.

"The saying is true - time flies when you’re having fun."

GET into the Easter spirit with a party in Old Hall.

Cllr Faisal Rashid (Whittle Hall - LAB) has organised an Easter Party for the community on March 11 from 12.30pm until 4.30pm.

The event will be held at Bewsey Barns community centre and will be run in partnership with the Jack and Jill Pre-School on Old Hall Road.

A discussions about setting up an Old Hall residents' association will also be held.

 

Blogger wins magazine award

A MUM-OF-TWO from Winwick has been named as one of the online knitters of the year at Knit Now magazine.

Lifelong-knitter Christine Perry is the writer of a blog title Winwick Mum, which has continued to go from strength to strength.

With a growing demand for tips and techniques from her readers, Christine published Super Socks, which has received rave reviews.

Her latest book brings the blog tutorials together for the first time so that anyone can learn how to knit socks.

But while finding the time to write Super Socks, Christine still keeps her blog regularly updated.

Following the news of the award, Christine wrote: "I'm very pleased and very proud to have won.

"I love to imagine how many new pairs of socks there will be in the world and hopefully now there will be even more pairs."

Vimto staff set to hit the heights

A GROUP of women from soft drinks company Vimto have taken their fundraising challenge to new heights in aid of Warrington Youth Club.

The 11-strong group of are set to climb Mount Kilimanjaro on March 19 and hope to raise £50,000 for the club, which is based at the Peace Centre off Cromwell Avenue.

Marine Millard, chief executive officer, said: “The work that is done by Warrington Youth Club changes the lives of so many local children, and we are proud to say that we have been supporting this incredible cause.

"The club is on our doorstep so there is no better charity for us to raise funds for than one in our local community.

"If we can continue to contribute to their fantastic work by climbing Mount Kilimanjaro, then all the training will be worthwhile."

The youth club will use the funds to buy mini buses to allow more children to take part in the activities.

Dave McNicholl, chief executive at the club praised the company for their efforts, who have raised almost £200,000 for the cause.

The trek is expected to take the Vimto team seven days – five to reach the summit via the Rongai route and a further two for the descent.
