Sandbach 7 Holmes Chapel 47
HOLMES Chapel put behind them the disappointment of a defeat last weekend when they saw off Sandbach thirds on Saturday.
It leaves them five points clear at the North West Intermediate League Division Four South summit.
They scored first against their neighbours, when prolific centre Jed Wragg won a challenge with his opposite number before skipping over the whitewash.
And the travelling supporters did not have to wait long for a second try, this time when captain Dom Moss came up against the hosts’ full back.
He dummied a pass to Callum Grant-Smith before, instead of releasing the ball, stepping around the remaining defender and winning a foot-race to the line.
Sandbach rallied before the break, replying with a converted try of their own when a maul pushed over the line from close range.
Chapel made the most of experience in their ranks in the second period, introducing Tom Chambers to the back row after a nine-month spell away from Station Road.
Tries from Dave Steer, plus two more for Wragg who duly completed a personal treble, established for the visitors a 40-point advantage by the final whistle.
They will hope to end 2015 on a winning note when they head to Lymm fourths this weekend, kick off 2.15pm.
