FORMER Lymm High School pupil Tim Curry was honoured with The Actors Fund Lifetime Achievement Award last night at the Tony Awards in Los Angeles.

The Grappenhall man, who now lives in Hollywood, suffered a stroke three years ago which still affects his speech but was described as being in 'good spirits' during the ceremony.

Speaking beforehand to Los Angeles magazine, the 69-year-old said he has been 'doing well' and was 'looking forward' to receiving the honour.

The star, best known for playing Dr Frank-N-Furter in the cult Rocky Horror musical, added: "It means that it just sort of solidifies the kind of work the American acting community has given me for years now.

"It’s very gracious of them, I think. I was thrilled when they told me and I am thrilled now."

He was also known for his roles in Monty Python's Spamalot and Muppet Treasure Island.
