FIREFIGHTERS were called out to tackle a second major blaze in town after a fire broke out in a hay barn in Moore earlier today, Thursday.

Fire crews have now extinguished the blaze on Mill Lane at around 9.30pm but the emergency services remain at the scene.

Mill Lane was closed while Cheshire Fire dealt with the blaze but it has now been reopened.

At 5pm today, a spokesman for Cheshire Fire said: "Firefighters are currently dealing with a hay barn on fire in Warrington.

"The barn measuring 10m by 5m is well alight and crews are using a covering jet and hose reel to extinguish the flames.

"A water supply is being secured from a nearby stream and police have been requested to close a road while crews deal with the fire."

At 9.15pm, the spokesman added: "Two main jets, one hose reel and a light portable pump were used to extinguish the fire and one fire engine remains at the scene damping down."

Firefighters expect the hay to smolder and produce smoke for several days.

This is the second fire this week after the iconic art deco building and former home to the Mr Smith's nightclub was destroyed in a suspected arson attack.
