FORMER Great Sankey High School pupils have been sharing their memories online of Coniston Camp after it was revealed the Barrow Hall Lane school will be taking year seven pupils to a different location this year.

The 'Save GSHS Coniston Camp' Facebook page has already had more than 280 likes after being set up yesterday, Thursday.

The site claims the trip to the Lake District has been running for 30 years and is calling on former pupils, who have recently been on the trip or who have children, to like and share the page to 'try and get this trip back in place for this year's year sevens'.

Jayne Clissold commented: "I went in 1986, still remember it like it was yesterday. Had such a brilliant time, got to try things I would never have done, laughed the whole time I was there, built friendships and made fab memories.

"They can't stop it, it's too important."

But assistant head teacher Louise Stubbs confirmed the trip had not been cancelled but was instead moving to a Peak District camp.

She added: "As a school we all love the year seven camp, it is part of our history and ethos - it just wont be in Coniston next year."
