LYMM was alive with the sound of music during our March meeting.

Despite having to move upstairs because of the renovations to the youth and community centre, WI members had a lovely afternoon viewing clips from vintage musicals.

Our speaker, Mr Brian Green took us on a musical journey from the 1930’s ‘Showboat’ through ‘Oklahoma’, ‘Carousel’, ‘My Fair Lady’, ‘The King and I’ and ‘West Side Story’ to ‘The Sound of Music’ in 1960.

He surprised us by telling us that many of the famous leading ladies mimed the songs which were actually sung by Marni Nixon.

Members heard about the Cheshire Federation spring council meeting which was held in Winsford the previous week.

The resolution calling for members to encourage mobility scooter drivers to take out insurance was passed by a sizeable majority.

There will also be an opportunity for some lucky Cheshire WI members to attend a garden party at Buckingham Palace in June.

The annual St George’s day meal will take place on April 23rd at the Fir Grove Hotel.

A coffee morning is to be arranged for Friday 15th May, 10am to 12noon, at the youth and community centre.

Members were asked to bring contributions for the tombola and the accessories stall.

There will also be a cake stall on the day.

Our next meeting will be on Wednesday, 8 April. The speaker will be Mrs Judy Popley and the talk will be entitled ‘Stately Homes – their legacy to us’.
