An unlikely find at the O2 Academy Newcastle has revealed a Sum 41 guitarist to be a Newcastle United fan.

A plectrum with “Sum 41” and “Brownsound” written adjacent to a Newcastle United badge was found during routine maintenance on the venue’s main stage, thought to belong to guitarist Dave Baksh – also known as Dave Brownsound.

“Look what we just found under our stage from who knows when,” tweeted O2 Academy Newcastle, where the Canadian rock band have played a number of times.

“Who knew that Brownsound from @Sum41 was a @NUFC fan!”

Baksh swiftly responded, confirming that he has been a Magpie for nearly quarter of a century.

“This means the world to me, #thankyou,” he tweeted.

Baksh also added: “All the best to the lads and I hope to catch a game soon,” as well as confirming that he plays “every show with those picks”.

A browse through the axe man’s social media archives produces further evidence of his Newcastle passion, with one photo showing Baksh posing in a 125th anniversary shirt gifted by friends.

Newcastle currently sit seven points above the Premier League relegation zone with only a handful of games left to play – fans will hope they’re not In Too Deep.
