VISITORS to Trafford Centre will now see Barton Square looks a lot different as the build reaches its half-way point and the vast glazed dome is complete.

Work has now reached the half-way milestone in the £75m development of Barton Square, in which over 110,000 sq ft of additional shopping space will be added including a new Primark store.

The shopping centre is already home to Next Home, Home Sense and Laura Ashley Home as well as Legoland Discovery Centre and Sea Life.

But once the work is complete, a Primark store the size of two football pitches will also be moving in.

Since the build began in 2018, over 200,000 hours have been dedicated to dramatically overhauling Barton Square in order to create the newly designed upper level.

A glass dome, which replicates the centre’s main dome and also the dome in St Paul’s Cathedral, is now completely glazed and visible to passers by.

Constructed from more than 1,800 pieces of glass, it weighs over 250 tonnes.

Inside, the revamped area will be lined with 36 palm trees, 20 marble seats, 120 urns, 120 statues and a centrepiece fountain.

Warrington Guardian:

Barton Square will also have an additional 350 parking spaces created including additional facilities for charging electric vehicles.

The opening will take place in spring 2020.

Alison Niven, Regional Centre Director at intu Trafford Centre said: “Things are rapidly moving forward with the development as we draw ever closer to opening. Main structures are in place and the final piece of glazing on the spectacular main dome has now been completed.

"Soon exciting new retail partners will be able to take space and bring new shopper experiences.”
