THE Prince of Wales and Duchess of Cornwall have arrived in Liverpool ahead of a busy day of engagements.

For the first engagement Charles and Camilla will meet Ireland's President Michael D Higgins at the Victoria Gallery and Museum to formally cement the prince and president's roles as joint patrons of Liverpool University's Institute of Irish Studies.

After this, the royal couple will embark on separate royal engagements across Merseyside.

The Prince of Wales will visit the Royal Albert Dock to celebrate its new royal status ahead of the 175th anniversary in 2021 and will meet local businesses who have made their home at the dock.

During this time Camilla will meet with volunteers from Wirral Women and Children's Aid.

At St George's Hall, Charles will meet Nelson Mandela's daughter Makaziwe Mandela who has donated a set of her father's drawings for permanent display at the hall while Camilla will attend a children’s literacy event at Liverpool Central Library.
