INDIE music legend, Peter Doherty will become the first major musician to perform in the Plaza since it reopened for the North by Northwich festival last year.

The former Libertines and Babyshambles frontman will be performing in the iconic Northwich building on Saturday, February 16.

The grade II listed building was built in 1928 and was used as a cinema until the 1960s before it became a bingo hall and then closed in 2011.

Will Godfrey, owner of the building, said: “This was the aim to get someone of Peter’s calibre to set up the future of the Plaza as a music venue.

“We had this confirmed last week and we are really excited and the tickets are selling really well so you will have to get them quick if you want to come.”

Peter Doherty will be performing songs from his 2016 album, Hamburg Demonstrations, but fans can expect to hear some Libertines and Babyshambles classics as well.

Will added: “It’s great to see the Plaza there with the more established venues that he is playing.

“We are still trying to establish ourselves as a music venue and we are going to see how well we can fill the venue for the gig.

“My dream is for this to become a live music venue and I think Northwich needs it.”

The Plaza was reopened in 2018 for the North by Northwich Festival and Will believes that the Charlatans’ festival had a big impact on the town.

Will said: “It’s helped to reinvent the town as a musical hub. Northwich can’t just survive off a high street.”

Tickets for the gig are on sale for £20 and can be purchased from the website albionrooms.com/live
