AWARD-WINNING comedian, actor and composer Tim Minchin is returning for his first solo shows since 2011.

The Australian, who has recently reinvented himself as a composer for musicals, will be at Liverpool Empire on November 1, 2019.

Tim wrote the music and lyrics for the stage adaptation of Roald Dahl's Matilda which has gone on to become one of the most acclaimed musicals of the past 20 years, winning a record seven Olivier Awards, 13 Helpmann Awards and five Tony Awards.

He also wrote music and lyrics for Groundhog Day, which after an acclaimed limited run at The Old Vic in London in 2016, debuted on Broadway in April 2017 and won the Olivier Award for Best Musical.

But Tim is still best known for his musical comedy and his tour has the apt title, Back.

His breakthrough came in 2005 when his show Dark Side became one of the most acclaimed comedy shows at the Edinburgh Fringe, and Tim won the Perrier Best Newcomer Award.

Tim followed that up with Rock n Roll Nerd, a film about his journey with his wife Sarah from their early days in Melbourne to the birth of their first child in London.

Tickets go on sale on Thursday, September 6, at 10am.
