A NEW food fair is being launched at Gemini this weekend.

Freshly baked bread, smoothies, afternoon tea, cupcakes and sandwiches made by artisan producers will be available on the grounds of Martin Dawes in Europa Boulevard on Saturday.

You can also pick up gifts, crafts and clothing from around 10 specialists from 11am to 4pm.

The event is being launched by Jennifer Perry, pictured, who runs the1930s-style mobile afternoon tea business Room Forty, after the former Lymm High School pupil teamed up with Lee Herbert from TV and home appliances store Martin Dawes.

The idea behind the ‘Martisan fair’ is to do something for the community by bringing Warrington businesses together and helping to promote each other’s work.

The pair also hope to make it a regular event.

Jennifer, a Woolston mum-of-two said: “I was delighted to have been approached by Martin Dawes to support their first artisan market.

“It is nice to see such a successful Warrington company putting energy into helping fledgling businesses to get a foot in the door.

“And I know the ones that are attending have great quality products.

“Hopefully Warrington’s bid for City of Culture status will encourage more of this type of family friendly event in communities across the town.”

There will also be activities for kids on the day including face painting, a buggy track, a chance to meet Warrington Wolves mascot Wolfie and even karaoke.

Jennifer runs various afternoon tea, cream tea and bread making experiences throughout Warrington.

She got the idea for Room Forty after building up a vast collection of vintage bone china and glass.

Following in her mum Colleen’s footsteps, who was a keen baker, Jennifer prepared for the role with an afternoon tea course with John Whaite, the winner of the third series of The Great British Bake Off.

Jennifer added: “The Martisan festival is here to stay, with events planned throughout the seasons.

“So come and be part of the first fair bringing the best of Warrington together for you.”

n The first 'Martisan' fair will be held at Martin Dawes in Europa Boulevard, opposite Marks and Spencer, on Saturday between 11am and 4pm
