ICE cream is not normally associated with the warming, rich flavours of Christmas but a Daresbury farm hopes to change that.

The award-winning Daresbury Dairy ice cream farm is launching its seasonal flavours at a tasting weekend on Saturday and Sunday from noon to 5pm.

Limited edition festive ice creams include mince pie, Christmas pudding, brandy cream, caramelised fig and mascarpone ice cream and there is also a mulled cranberry sorbet.

Husband and wife team Matt and Claire Whitlow will also be launching a range of ice cream cakes and a Christmas tasting selection gift pack.

Claire said: ''We want to create a range of luxury, indulgent ice creams. Our inspiration comes from using seasonal ingredients like cranberries and taking impetus from other foods that are well loved over the festive period.

"Making sure our offering is on trend is also important to us, and we believe flavours like mascarpone and caramelised fig are growing in popularity at the moment."

Matt and Claire launched Daresbury Dairy at Penkridge Lake Farm in 2011, using milk from the family's 170 strong herd of Friesian cows.
