THE rule usually is that if you have worn a trend the first time around, then you must not pick it back up again the second time, usually when cool young hipsters are sporting the look.

Well, varsity jackets and the college chic that emerged from LA in the ’90s is knocking the ball out of the fashion park this season and everyone is invited to take part.

You may know it as a baseball jacket, a varsity jacket or, to those in the know, the Letterman jacket, and this is really the wardrobe staple this season.

The trend has made a touchdown on the fashion radar thanks to the coolest New York fashion designers, from Alexander Wang to Rag and Bone.

The contrastingsleeved jacket and cut-off collar throwon is the coolest outerwear piece to be seen wearing this year. Stacks of top fashion editors, photographers, bloggers and stylists have been sporting the trend in leathers, felts and every colour imaginable.

Golden Square Shopping Centre is the style stadium for all the pieces you need to score a home run in the fashion stakes and their expert suggests several ways to wear the sportsinspired piece.

She said: “For the offduty look, dress down your jacket, teaming it with colourful denims, cropped comic print Tees and bright, white hightops.”

And the trend isn’t just for the student, athlete or the tomboy.

“Take inspiration from Kim Kardashian and rev up your outfit with a hiphugging pencil skirt and fabulous heels,” she added.

“Go all urban and create an edgy Rhiannainspired look.

Team a classic black and white varsity jacket with leather trousers or tight, shiny disco pants.”

Finally for the girlygirl, offset your regular ditsy look and throw on a varsity piece with some familiar florals and laces for the ultimate in ‘cheerleader wearing her boyfriend’s varsity look’.

The most fashionsavvy can complete their all-American look with another ’90s classic, the snapback baseball cap.

Golden Square’s fashion expert added: “One thing is for certain. No matter how you wear your jacket, you are bound to look super stylish and feel cool and comfortable this season.”
