TATTON Park has been named the UK's best loved National Trust garden, according to new research.

Rated People analysed Google reviews and Instagram data to create a top 10 of places of historic interest or natural beauty that have been offering a welcome change of scene and a moment or two of tranquility since lockdown relaxed

The historical estate boasts a neo-classical mansion surrounded by landscaped gardens – including the celebrated Japanese garden – stretching for more than 50 acres.

Warrington Guardian:

Beyond the gardens are a thousand more acres of parkland with wild deer grazing, a rare breed farm and a medieval Old Hall to explore.

It is also home to the annual RHS Flower Show, a huge date in the north west calendar, and hosts other large scale family events, fairs and concerts throughout the year.

Head gardener Simon Tetlow said: “It does feel extra special in the gardens this summer.

"I don’t know if it’s a new appreciation of open spaces since lockdown, or people getting their social life back after self-isolating. Whatever the reason, it’s been a joy to welcome our staff, volunteers and visitors back to the Gardens, and to meet and work with people from all walks of life.

“I never lose sight of the fact that hundreds of years ago, this magnificent garden was created for the pleasure of just one family.

“My team’s job is to maintain its beauty make it accessible for everyone to enjoy. It’s wonderful that today the Garden is shared by thousands of visitors, and they’re inspired to share photos and reviews online.”

Adrienne Minster, chief executive of Rated People, said: “While there is still a need to maintain social distancing, many people are opting to spend their days out in open spaces. National Trust gardens provide scenic day trips across the country, which are a great way to get out of the house post-lockdown.

Warrington Guardian:

"We were glad to see that the list had gardens spread out across the UK, providing multiple options for people looking to explore locally or visit during a staycation.”

Tatton Park was one of two National Trust gardens in the north west to make the list with Lyme Park in Stockport coming in sixth.
