A HOUSING association is planning to fit new cladding to an entire street of houses.

Warrington Borough Council has approved an application for planning permission for Muir Group’s scheme on Montrose Close in Cinnamon Brow.

This proposal involves re-cladding the external walls of dozens of bungalows on the road, as well as the re-roofing of properties, the replacement of entrance canopies and new windows and doors.

Submission documents stated: “The units are as per originally constructed circa the 1970s and 1980s and are all in very poor condition with extensive fungal decay evident within the external cladding, which is widespread across the estate.

“In some instances, decay has been so extensive that individual gables have needed to be re-clad in plywood as a temporary measure to maintain weathertightness until a more comprehensive refurbishment can be undertaken.

“Rooves are in poor condition and are in need of extensive re-roofing.

“Windows and external doors are at an age when replacement would be considered prudent, irrespective of the improved thermal standards than can be achieved utilising modern windows and external door sets.

“The properties are as a result very dated and aesthetically unsightly, although conversely we are aware that ongoing maintenance required by the Muir property asset team is at such a high level now that wholescale external refurbishment is well overdue.”

Consent for the redevelopment was granted by WBC on Thursday, June 10.
