Blocked grids cause flooding

HAS Warrington Borough Council ceased cleaning street grids and gulleys? Seeing grids being cleaned by a suction vehicle was a regular sight at one time, but I cannot recall the last time I saw this.

Leaving grass cuttings on mowed verges and grassed areas is a partial cause of blocked grids and the onset of autumn will only make matters worse.

Anyone walking down Padgate Lane near St Oswald’s gets soaked by water from the gutters.

There are pelican crossings throughout the town that have blocked grids adjacent to them which make it a battle of wits to press and wait or get a soaking.

Replacing one highly paid executive with one street gang might be the answer.

I remember when the council had a team of drainage men, one man kenny use his bicycle to travel job to job with a spade and drain rods.
Now every job is left unless urgent.
We need a proper jetting and cleaning schedule where every street gets all gullies emptied then fully jetted on a rotation basis to stop the build up of silt and prevent problems.
Cost to much to pay these contractors so jobs get left.

Everybody knows that prevention is better than cure. Hang on a moment, what I menat to say is "Everybody WITH AN OUNCE OF COMMON SENSE" knows prevention is better than cure. Councillors have one thing on their mind when planning budgets. How much can I save NOW. They dont care about the long term effect as half of them work on the basis of "well I wont be in office when that comes tumbling down".

Its the same with councils who cease to have council run firework displays. They save on the cost of holding them, whilst the NHS picks up the cost of the extra "at home" injuries.

£10,000,000 + is being spent on a flood barrier for the River Mersey. In the 30 years I've lived in the area, the river flooded once and that was just ground cover, not like in other parts of the country where it gets in the houses and businesses and ruins everything. We have had torrential rain for months and STILL the Mersey hasn't flooded and yet the Env Agency and the Council think it is OK to spend all this money on a flood barrier we don't need and ignore the state of the drains which were responsible for all the floods in Warrington recently - MAD!!!!! And don't get me started on the tree destruction in order to build this concrete monstrosity !!! So typical, spend money where it isn't needed and ignore the real problems !
