Shame on absent fans
3:06pm Wednesday 26th September 2012 in Letters
WE often hear the ‘Best fans in Super League’ claim for the Wolves.
And as someone who travels home and away I would not argue with it.
But where were they for the play-off game with St Helens and Hull?
Little more than 10,000 fans were at the Saints game, and close to 3,000 of them must have been away fans.
The number of empty seats was the most shocking thing. All those season ticket holders who failed to show should have their tickets ripped up for next year.
If you can’t get excited for games like these then when can you?
I know what the replies will be – it is expensive and it is only weeks after Wembley and it doesn’t really matter.
But those fans who failed to show bear some of the responsibility for that loss.
If you fail to show for a game like this, you give up the right to have any opinion.
No doubt if they do get to the Grand Final or Wembley again next year there will be 20,000 glory hunters there again.
But rugby league is a year long game – not just for finals. Stay at home ‘fans’ – shame on you.

I'm also living away from Warrington and would love to get to see games at teh HJ, but it would cost me the best part of a day driving and £50 in petrol. So, no I don't go to games other than the big ones. And no, that doesn't make me any less of a fan than the man from Padgate!
See you at the Stretford end on Saturday. Now the Wire!!!

I have a family season ticket for the East Stand and I went to the matches in the challenge cup campaign as well as the final plus some away games. I also went to the St Helen's game but finances have put a stop to the Hull game when in the same week the renewal for the season tickets was sent out with a cut off at the end of October to get early bird prices. If the RFL wanted to show the grounds as full. I have been told that it is them that have the say over prices well how about putting an incentive out to season ticket holders eg half price, one game free, away game discount. The club would make the money back on the refreshments etc. Come on the RFL we have fantastic supporters lets give them all the opportunity to go to every match.
