Shame on absent fans

WE often hear the ‘Best fans in Super League’ claim for the Wolves.

And as someone who travels home and away I would not argue with it.

But where were they for the play-off game with St Helens and Hull?

Little more than 10,000 fans were at the Saints game, and close to 3,000 of them must have been away fans.

The number of empty seats was the most shocking thing. All those season ticket holders who failed to show should have their tickets ripped up for next year.

If you can’t get excited for games like these then when can you?

I know what the replies will be – it is expensive and it is only weeks after Wembley and it doesn’t really matter.

But those fans who failed to show bear some of the responsibility for that loss.

If you fail to show for a game like this, you give up the right to have any opinion.

No doubt if they do get to the Grand Final or Wembley again next year there will be 20,000 glory hunters there again.

But rugby league is a year long game – not just for finals. Stay at home ‘fans’ – shame on you.

Shame on you for being so judgemental and shame on the RFL for putting the prices so high and not doing any concessions for those loyal season ticket holders.
I have a family season ticket for the East Stand and I went to the matches in the challenge cup campaign as well as the final plus some away games. I also went to the St Helen's game but finances have put a stop to the Hull game when in the same week the renewal for the season tickets was sent out with a cut off at the end of October to get early bird prices. If the RFL wanted to show the grounds as full. I have been told that it is them that have the say over prices well how about putting an incentive out to season ticket holders eg half price, one game free, away game discount. The club would make the money back on the refreshments etc. Come on the RFL we have fantastic supporters lets give them all the opportunity to go to every match.

i have watched warrington since 1977 and have season tickets for myself, wife and son in the east stand.having watched each and every year its safe to say i am no fairweather fan however i did not attend the hull game, yes, mainly due to finances! in the real world this month has been pretty expensive for families, kids back to school etc.do these families need to justify this to you? the 8000 or so season ticketholders should be applauded by the club for forking out money upfront each year as this enables long term planning etc so your statement as to them being refused is rather pathetic.play off games should be heavily discounted for season ticket holders. The play off system does need looking at as all clubs have struggled with attendances so it is something the rfl need to look at.

Alan Wilson - I really want to go to St Helen's but I can't afford to go. Please can you pay for me to get in and provide transport? I'll buy my own drinks :)

As my name implies I no longer live in Warrington, having said that that I have been a supporter since the 1940's and for me to travel to watch the wire it would cost me £60 odd pounds in petrol when they play at home and considerable more when they are away except when they play in London but that does not make me any less a supporter as Mr Wilson implies.

It's a good job that an extra 10,000 Warrington "Glory Seekers" do come to support their team at big matches otherwise the stands at Wembley and Old Trafford would look rather empty with only 8,000 season ticket holders sat there!
I'm also living away from Warrington and would love to get to see games at teh HJ, but it would cost me the best part of a day driving and £50 in petrol. So, no I don't go to games other than the big ones. And no, that doesn't make me any less of a fan than the man from Padgate!
See you at the Stretford end on Saturday. Now the Wire!!!
