Dishearted at closure of Dallam day centre

I WOULD like to put on record how disgusted I am at the announcement of the closure of Dallam Day Centre and people having to move to Gorse Covert Day Centre and other places. My son Martin is 39 years old, severely disabled and uses a wheelchair.

I have never been to Gorse Covert but from what I can see on Google Earth and have been told by others, it is in the outback (my personal view) surrounded by mainly industrial buildings, which shows to me that this council/Government wants to push the disabled from public view.

At the moment my son gets picked up twice a week by carers in the afternoon and before coming home he is taken out for leisure activities. I cannot see where around Gorse Covert they can take him even for a walk in his chair.

The council say that it will save £200,000, but they are going to spend £300,000 upgrading Gorse Covert. Why not build a new and multi-purpose day centre for the disabled people and others in our community on the Dallam site, in the hub of the town?

Yes I know it may cost and we already have Orford Park, but so what? Let us take care of some of the most vulnerable people instead of sending them to the far corners of Warrington.
