New Orford park operation is a shambles

IN response to Loreta Lukauskiene’s letter in Points of View, Guardian, August 2, regarding Orford Park sports centre, she is absolutely right to say that the contractors were hurrying to finish the job for the Queen’s visit, as it wasn’t scheduled to open until August.

I have had confirmation of this from Jan Souness, managing director of Livewire Warrington Community Interest Company, which operates the leisure centres in Warrington, that it was a golden opportunity to have the building opened by the Queen as part of her Jubilee tour.

I complained to Mrs Souness on Sunday, July 15, to inform her that eight weeks on from the opening, my son, who is on an aquatics course there, was still waiting for his certificate and badge for an exam which he passed there on May 19.

I informed her that reception is very vague as to where the certificates and badges for this were.

She went on to say similar projects of this size and complexity elsewhere in the country have had a longer lead-in time to implement their openings and iron out some of the difficulties similar to those we experienced.

Maybe, just maybe, the opening of a £30m building, planning for the Queens visit, planning for the Olympic torch relay, planning for the music concerts and dealing with the tens of thousands of visitors the building has had since opening has slightly distracted them from getting you a £1.50 swim badge. Everything is relative a guess!!
