No response from council on illegal parking

I THOUGHT readers might like to know that if you are coming into Stockton Heath in the evening to visit one of the bars or restaurants, then you are quite welcome to park on the double yellow lines between St Thomas’ Church and the traffic lights at the Mulberry Tree pub.

The reason I know this is a perfectly acceptable thing to do is that I was under the impression that you could not park on double yellow lines, so I contacted Warrington Borough Council to ask why they allowed taxis to park on them every Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday evenings.

They said they would investigate and reply within five days.

Naturally they have done no such thing, so I can only assume that they consider this illegal parking not to be a problem, therefore to be fair to everyone, they will permit all and sundry to park on yellow lines

They are probably trying to find a council worker/traffic enforcement officer who is willing to wait until after 4.30pm to clock off (or negotiate an overtime rate). Once they have done this, they will obviously have 6 or 7 documents to fill out in triplicate as there will be a possibility that this official may come into contact with the public. Then after 2-3 weeks of disecting the results of the study they will decide......"its not within our remit".

Not entorely true Mr Griffiths as the people who park on the double yellows are usually picking up take-a-ways and don't stay for too long but more often than not they are taxi drivers waiting in line in hope to grab paying passengers especially at weekends. People going to the FAR TO MANY reseraunts and bars park in the FREE carparks but mostly on all the side streets. The chaos of the side street parking is a pain in the arse for residents and has been an issue for years.

A council notice was issued some time ago to allow a taxi rank to operate outside the Red Lion on certain evenings for people to return to Warrington safely, so I guess they are officially ok.

I don't think the taxi rank is the problem. It's the number of them that queue up all the way through the village blocking the roads and deciding that it's your problem when they pull out and swing around.

It's about time the local traffic wardens and police dealt with the problem of this and the village's cashpoint cripples and those who think Sainsbury's is a drive-thru because everybody else is perfectly happy to wait in queuing traffic while they pop in to do their shopping or get some money so long as they put their hazards on.

I've no doubt that the council have permitted a taxi rank to operate, but that doesn't allow a dozen taxi's to wait in a holding pattern on double yellow lines. The comment about them doing u-turns outside the Mulberry Tree/Red Lion is a legitimate one too.
