Thanks to Tony Smith’s Warrington Wolves for crushing the Huddersfield Giants

No substitute for experience No substitute for experience

I WOULD like to send my congratulations and thanks to Tony Smith’s Warrington Wolves for crushing the Huddersfield Giants in Sunday’s Carnegie Challenge Cup semi-final at Salford to reach their third Wembley final in four years.

Among the many highlights of a memorable afternoon was the fact that no fewer than 10 of the Warrington players were aged 30 or over and the average age was 29.

As I regularly tell my younger colleagues and children, there is no substitute for experience. So thanks again to Adrian Morley , aged 35, and the ‘wily old foxes’ Lee Briers and Brett Hodgson, both 34, and not forgetting Michael Monaghan , aged 32.

Three cheers, too, for Garreth Carvell , Micky Higham and Trent Waterhouse, who are all 31. You may not be able to go on Club 18-30 holidays any more but you can still go to Wembley and win the cup.
