Parking in Lymm - clamp down on the real culprits

I SYMPATHISE with last week’s correspondent Kevin O’Brien who was fined for forgetting to display a ticket in the free Pepper Street car park in Lymm.

I too have been fined for the same thing, a simple mistake which is costly. What frustrates me even more as a regular visitor to the village is that it’s all very well the wardens blitzing the car park but what about the rest of the village?

Last Saturday it was mayhem with lazy motorists parking on the yellow lines outside Pepper Street car park to get to the cash point, the yellow lines outside Sainsbury’s, the yellow lines by the lower dam, the yellow lines outside the Spread Eagle and the yellow lines outside the sweetshop on Eagle Brow.

All parked because they are too idle to find somewhere sensible but they are the real nuisances by causing obstructions. Do they get tickets from the warden? No.

I suggest if the council wants to make some real money it looks to the other parts of the village – they would have a field day.

"All parked because they are too idle to find somewhere sensible..."

Oh, the irony.

From someone who is too idle to get a simple ticket out of a machine.

Well, Caroline, as a regular visitor you should know better and have no excuse about not getting a ticket.

Perhaps some of the people parking elsewhere are doing it because of people overstaying their free parking time.

I can't ever remember a letter about parking when someone admitted deserving a ticket. Write in now all you idle parkers.

I have to agree with Caroline about the appalling parking in Lymm village. I drive through the village around 1.45pm several times each week, to avoid Brookfield Road which is a nightmare. The number of vehicles causing an obstruction by parking on double yellows is amazing. They seem to have absolutely no consideration for other drivers.

parking on double yellow lines doesn't mean they are causing an obstruction, that is a different motoring offence. How many of the cars on the yellow lines display blue badges? I'm sure WBC would have sent a parking attendant to Lymn if there was money to be made

As Caroline said, the cars are left there by people going to cash machines or just 'popping' into a shop and not bothering to use the car park properly. Most of the vehicles are not displaying blue badges and are indeed causing an obstruction because of the narrowness of the roads in the village and the poor visibility for those trying to negotiate the bends safely.

People not using the car park properly like taking a free ticket? It's always the case that someone in the wrong always tries to point everyone else's wrong doing out to. An obstruction on the road is something that will prevent the free movement of traffic you can pass a parked car therefore its not an obstruction, a view can not be obstructed in law. Yellow lines indicate a waiting restrictions. If you have an issue contact WBC on 01925 444400 ask for the parking complaints team I'm sure they will help

It never ceases to amaze me how people who have been given a ticket for something always try to pass the blame onto someone else,Being too lazy to take a FREE parking ticket from a machine has absolutely NOTHING to do with peoples parking habits in the rest of the village. You dint take a ticket so you got one given to you. PAY UP and next time do as requested.

Or take a taxi, better value than a London cab.

Getting a London cab to travel up to Grappenhall and take her into Lymm would cost a fortune!

If it's free parking, why do you need a ticket? Not very 'green' is it??

Free parking for the first two hours.
