Catering at Walton Hall in Warrington pays for improvements
5:00pm Wednesday 27th June 2012 in Letters
REGARDING the meals at Walton Hall, Guardian, June 14, Beryl Joy need have no fears about cooking smells in the park.
The Hall has been providing lunches for a year and in my experience there are no problems coming from the kitchens. On the contrary, the Sunday lunches are excellent and provide some of the best value for money in the town. Walton Hall and Gardens is owned by the people of Warrington and is the envy of many other towns in the area.
But attractive facilities like the rose garden and the lake come at a cost and unfortunately the days of unlimited council spends are over.
Our present council saved the park and has ambitious plans to improve the facilities, but it needs to be self-financing. Catering in the hall for Sunday lunches, weddings and funerals is one of the ways to put our heritage on a firm financial footing.
I suggest that Beryl considers joining the Friends who do voluntary work fundraising and helping the hard-working rangers to keep the gardens nice, as well as representing the views of park users to the council. Membership is free, and for more details, including Sunday lunches, visit fowe.btck.co.uk or e-mail the membership secretary, Malcolm Eldridge, at malcolmeldridge@googlemail.com, or if you do not have a computer, call me on 851092 or 07730 567138.
