Proud of our Golden Gates

Proud of our Golden Gates Proud of our Golden Gates

AFTER reading the article in May 10 edition of the Guardian, about our beautiful Golden Gates falling in to disrepair, I was saddened.

The gates are something to be proud of, as is our Town Hall.

I don’t know of any other town that has such a beautiful looking Town Hall.

I had friends visiting from Spain recently who originate from Kent, and I took them into the town centre to show them the gates.

To say the least they were very impressed, and I was very proud to show them off.

I do hope the council will take the advice of Mr Thelwell, and do some needed repairs.

I suspect money is a major factor in the decision to carry out repairs, so how about the chief executive Diana Terris and any other council members who are on high salaries putting their hand in their pockets and giving a donation towards the repairs.

i would of thought that they would have been done up and repainted for the queen. i think i saw some one giving it a once over seeing what work needed to be done. but the sec we heard that the queen would not been seeing that it was not done. i might be wrong but it sure seems that way.

Give me and a couple of mates some tins of hammerite, gold spray paint and £50 each and we can get them looking 1000% better in an afternoon......and they will stay looking good for year to come. I wonder if the council actually has a bottom limit for bills....."if it dont cost at least £10k to fix, it aint broke!"

Time for the Labour council to use that slush fund for a positive purpose.
