Thanks for sailing event

THANKS to everyone at the Ferry Tavern and Fiddler’s Ferry Sailing Club for organising the race in memory of Walter Warburton who died 100 years ago as a result of a sailing accident.

Walter was my husband’s great grandfather and after I wrote to Andy Mulholland, landlord of the Ferry Tavern, he not only researched the incident but also contacted the sailing club and along with its secretary helped organise the event and donated the cup.

We attended the event with our four sons and were given a wonderful, warm and friendly reception by Andy and his family and sailing club members.

Andy’s enthusiasm for the research into the history of his pub has resulted in us knowing so much more about the Warburton family history and the bonus was meeting up with two other members of the family.

Also thanks to the Warrington Guardian for writing about the event as it was as a result of that article that the family members attended.

Many thanks to all, it was very much appreciated.
