Shocked by taxi driver’s actions

I HAVE long noticed that taxi drivers turn on to roads and approach islands without signaling and drive at whatever speed suits them.

However I was shocked to find out that a taxi firm could make a passenger get out of the cab when the driver decided he was going no further that night.

A family friend had to collect her daughter from the side of a road at night as she had run out of money on a fare that had been pre-booked.

To date the taxi firm has not commented.

Maybe to safeguard our children we should ensure taxi companies provide the service they are paid for and not accept shoddy practice.

Taxi firms are businesses - not an arm of social services.

If I run out of money in a pub I don't expect the landlord to carry on serving me because i'm still thirsty.

No comparison Nick. You and I know full well the dangers faced by a yong girl out alone at night. The taxi driver could have taken her all the way and got the fare from her parents on arrival.

Taxi firms arent a charity.Either pay your way or walk. And as for the dangers faced by a young girl....how did the cab driver know her parents would pay?

erm... I think the girl could speak. Maybe she could have told him. And, if the parents refused to pay, he would have known their address and could have reported them for fare evasion or the taxi firm could have sued. No excuses.

What with this and the recent letter from the woman whinging about her taxi fare , taht she admitted was for a longer journey and still cost less than her fare in London, I'm beginning to feel sorry for local taxi drivers.

Perhaps this girl's parents could suggest to her that she learns to budget better.

Spot on Doc. But then again, presumably, the stupid taxi driver should have been mature, and intelligent, enough to have realised that for himself. If he isn't then his hackney licence should be taken away from him.

If the fare was pre-booked why not ask how much it would be? I always ask for a rough estimation when I get in a taxi. Plus if Ive done the route before I know how much to expect ...

Perhaps the young girl should have got on the bus instead. Or called her parents to come and collect her instead of getting into a taxi knowing she didnt have enough money.

Taxi Drivers have to make a living too!

Idiot girl, idiot parents.
So this family freind had to take responsibility for collecting their own daughter. they were so concerned that a total stranger had not gone out of his way to ensure her safety when clearly picking up thier own daughter who they felt was too vulnerable to be on her own but had no care to her cavorting and drinking was an inconvienience for them.
Everybody wants to be the victim nowdays, i think you owe the driver the rest of the fare that you had contracted to pay. Ut was unable to.
