THANK you for your heartwarming article, ‘Workers donate £16,576 to save retired greyhounds’, Warrington Guardian, September 27.
Congratulations to all involved at The Merseyside Greyhound Trust for promoting greyhound adoption.
Kudos to QVC for its much-needed and generous donation that will greatly aid the trust in its tireless work rescuing and placing ex-racers in well-deserved loving homes.
Greyhound racing is cruel and inhumane. Racing greyhounds endure lives of nearly endless confinement. While racing they suffer and die from injuries such as broken limbs, paralysis and cardiac arrest.
Short-term investments, over-bred so there is always a replacement, the greyhounds are valued only as long as they generate a profit. That is no way to treat a dog.
Dogs play an important role in our lives and deserve to be protected from individuals and industries that cause them harm. I have adopted beloved ex-racing greyhounds since 1997, and I am a board member of GREY2K USA, a national non-profit organisation that works to end dog racing.
