Helen Jones

IT has been brought to our attention that a letter we published last week suggests that Helen Jones MP had misused her expenses. We accept there has been no suggestion of wrong doing in her claims. We apologise for any offence caused

I would have to agree completely that by Helen's interpretation of the rules she has done nothing wrong and can look her constituents in the eye. As one of the higher claiming MP's I bet she cant wait for the voters to show their appreciation at the next election.

Local Man, you are correct.
Of course 'within the rules' Helen Jones has not done anything wrong. That is the whole point that she, and many other politicians, have not yet got.

As soon as she stated that everything was 'within the rules', she also told us she was morally lost, and has, as a result, probably lost her credibility with thinking members of the public; she may not have claimed for a moat, but she is still in the top fifty claimants, out of all MP's, about 650 of them, for expenses. As she does not live in the Shetland Isles, where one could have expected a high expense report, but lives in Warrington, this high ranking does seem rather remarkable. (Especially given that the member for Falkirk, which as I recall is a good deal further north than Warrington, managed to have one of the lowest expense claims.) But I acknowledge this was all within the rules and I am not saying she has done anything wrong. (Seeing the apology the Guardian published to her recently I can only guess how litigious she is about criticism.)

I wonder by how much, now that MP's expenses are being made partly public (redacting?), Helen's expenses will fall next in the next accounting period?

The time has come for the local man (sorry, pun not intended) and woman to start taking a real interest in what Helen is up to and see what she is actually doing for us, or not, as the case may be.

Perhaps not replying to other reader's letters to her, beefing about the council's chief executive, and the council itself is what she does.
(Funny how the beefing about the council started soon after Labour lost control of it. Now there is a coincidence.)

Surely Labour voters will really have to think very hard about supporting Helen to stand at the next election, she has now become part of the problem and thus cannot be part of the solution. Time for change don't you think?
