CLLR Maureen McLaughlin has been elected chair of Warrington South Constituency Labour Party after what the Warrington Guardian describes as a passionate speech (Warrington Guardian online, June 14).

Well I wasn’t there but I can honestly say the only thing I’ve ever known Cllr McLaughlin to be passionate about is removing funding from YMCA and doing the same to expedite closure of the Room At The Inn.

Looking at all the soundbites such as ‘people needing Labour to win’ and talk of ‘dignity, fairness and justice’ being ‘Labour’s core values’ one might think she’d been swatting up on the ‘how to con the electorate manual’.

If she has then she must read the last page which instructs on how to, later, dodge all the pre-election false promises and get down to the serious business of relying all those Labour core values.

As for ‘highlighting why the party needs to win the next General Election’ it’s not going to happen if local councillors such as Tom Jennings spend hours tweeting jokes about Corbyn and his followers but in his electoral statements says he wants to help him into number 10.

I always thought being hypocritical to get elected was a Tory trait.

The town’s roads are riddled with potholes, the streets are full of rubbish and most of the drains are blocked while this council spends the increasing rate payer’s money on sending workmen to drench the bedding of homeless people.

If that’s WBC’s idea of dignity, fairness and justice then heaven help us.

Having voted Labour in every general and local election since 1970 it saddens me to say that, thanks to the likes of these WBC members, I will not vote Labour in the next locals and if they can’t keep a voter like me what chance do they have of persuading the ‘don’t knows’ of coming over?

I wouldn’t vote Conservative for a million pounds and the same goes for UKIP. Having fond memories of my former local councillor Colin Oliver I may vote Lib Dem or considering that the Greens were pro YMCA and RATI, could be swayed that way.

However one thing is for certain; I will be voting for the dignity, fairness and justice that ‘true’ socialism stands for and not the political posturing of these professional politicians.
