THE majority of Woolston residents, especially those in Hawthorn and Greymist Avenue, are unaware of a proposed planning application submitted to the council in May.

This seeks to relocate five permanent traveller caravans, their families and fairground equipment from a plot on Foundry Street in the town centre to a piece of industrial land owned by the council on New Cut Lane, Woolston. This is to allow the council to develop the plot on Foundry Street for a youth zone.

No residents nearby the proposed development on New Cut Lane were informed of the planning application resulting in virtually no local knowledge about this, hence the handful of objections already received are primarily from business owners.

As a resident I am shocked that the quality of life for existing residents is yet again being ignored.

Residents who live near New Cut Lane already suffer significant noise issues from the existing business units and further development will have a significant detrimental impact.

To propose to house families on industrial land, on a busy industrial estate less than 100 metres away from a household waste tip and opposite the council’s parking facility for more than 50 bin wagons with the subsequent smell, flies and noise seems hardly to be putting the safety and needs of the families concerned first.

While the need for the youth zone in the town centre is understood this should not be at the expense of the quality of life of Woolston residents and more suitable land should be found.

Yet again the council is riding rough shod over planning legislation and the welfare of families to achieve political goals.

I urge Woolston residents to vehemently object to this planning application quoting planning application reference 2018/32762 to devcontrol@warrington.gov.uk.
