I LIKE reading Fly in the Ointment each week, particularly this week’s section (Warrington Guardian, May 24) on the pensioners giving the young £10,000.

The last paragraph was amusing in some ways blaming the Government, you know, those horrible Conservatives, for the pension for women’s age increasing.

If they haven’t had enough notice by now then they must have been living on planet Zorb.

The state pension age (SPA) is presently 65 for men. Under the Pensions Act 1995, the SPA for women is in the process of being increased from 60 to 65.

The Pensions Act 2011 will raise the SPA to 66 for both men and women by October 2020. Under the Pensions Act 2007, the SPA for both men and women will be raised to 68 between 2044 and 2046.

Under the Pensions Act 2014, the Government brought forward the rise in state pension age to 67 for both men and women to April 2028.

Now that is how it all happened and is going to be. Start saving now and cut down on things you cannot really afford if you want a comfortable retirement.
